Four years ago, we took a leap of faith and started what we call Prairie Land Foods providing the opportunity for individuals and families to be to able eat healthy at an affordable cost. Since then, we have joined forces with Project Topeka and several other organizations including the Girl Scouts and the Boy Scouts and assisted with the annual Letter Carriers Food Drive in the Topeka area.
We strongly believed in our program when we took that leap of faith and still do. Unfortunately, due to the economy, the number of Prairie Land Foods’ orders have been lower than usual over the summer. In addition to the struggle with low orders, we were recently faced with freezer and cooler repairs costing us over $13,000. With these issues coupled with the trucking costs not going down, it has put us into a critical situation.
In conversations over the last few weeks, I have had people tell me that they used to purchase PLF due to financial issues, but when they got back on their feet they quit so they could open the spot for others that needed it worse than themselves. To make sure everyone understands how Prairie Land Foods works. We are only funded by YOU, the participant. Each time you purchase a package for yourself or for someone else, you are giving your support to Prairie Land Foods and the only funding we receive.
The bottom line is WE NEED YOUR HELP! If you have never ordered and thought about doing so for yourself or for someone else, now is the time.
If you have a business, work for a business, you are a member of an organization, church, or you personally would like to make a cash donation, it would be appreciated more than you can imagine. With so many people struggling, we want to put into place donations for “seed money” to be able to purchase food packages for families not able to make their first purchase, allowing them to be able to begin receiving healthy food through Prairie Land Foods.
