Welcome to Prairie Land Food            If you are unable to order through the web site because your paycheck comes in too late, call June or Linda, who will be happy to assist you with your order and work out arrangments for a delayed payment to meet your families pay check schedule.

These days it has become more and more of a rarity for families to discover a good deal. Prairie Land Foods has been a God send for our household. Unfortunately this service is in serious jeopardy due to the lack of participation.

I don’t assume you are familiar with Prairie Land Foods. Please spend a moment reviewing the information below and make a quick run to their website www.prairielandfood.com .

The concept of the program, while simple once it’s understood, requires and understanding of the why's and how’s to grasp. Basically the non-profit organization offers monthly grocery packages offering quality frozen meats as well as fresh fruits and vegetables at a very affordable price. The orders are placed through host sites (often churches or community buildings), email or the website. Participants pick up their orders during the scheduled time at their host site.

It is my belief the public perceives Prairie Land Food as having some sort of catch to it and this is why it is struggling. The irony being the good deal is real.

Here is what I love about Prairie Land Food:

 ▪ I spend all of two to three minutes placing my order by email after looking over the monthly offering which comes via email. I can do this at 2:00 in the afternoon or 2:00 in the morning, whenever I find that moment in my overly busy day.

 ▪ Picking up my order has never taken over 10 minutes – a far cry from a shopping excursion to the grocery store. As one who dreads grocery shopping, this in itself would make the program worthwhile for me.

 ▪ We have estimated we stretch our food budget 2:1 using Prairie Land Foods and eat much healthier as well. Frankly, it’s made a large difference in how well we are eating. It has eliminated a good portion of the convenience foods showing up in our refrigerator and freezer.

 ▪ Not being one of those great home cooks, I love not having to make so many decisions with meal planning. Each month ideas and recipes are available based on the current packages - not one for each selection, but multiple recipes. Those participants who enjoy recipe trade are my hero/heroines. How easy can it get?

 ▪ We occasionally send “love gifts” to those who might be struggling during a particular time. When my daughter married last summer we sent them a package each month to help ease into married life. They live in Northwest Oklahoma. We ordered it here and they picked it up at a site very convenient to them down there. I so wish I had known about this during college years. It would have been great to have been able to supplement monthly budgets for the kids while in school! Now that PLF is looking for seed donations, we will adjusting a portion of our monthly tithing to this program.

Obviously, I can go on and on about Prairie Land Food.

Being skeptical at first I decided to place an order with Prairie Land Food thinking it would just be poor quality meats and fruits and vegetables that were maybe not as fresh as I could buy at the local grocery store. BUT.... after placing my first order I realized the foods they offer are fresh and are of good quality. After receiving an email from June Glasgow, the Prairie Land Food representative for this area, saying that because the do not have enough participants the program may no longer be offered, this made me decide to do something about saving this great program. Submitted by Amy from Ulysses, KS. who wrote an editorial for the local paper.
